Where should I stay in Boracay?

Station 1 sits at the north end of White Beach, where the sand stretches 30 to 40 meters wide at low tide. The water is calmer here than at Station 2, and the crowd thins as you walk north. D'Mall is about 10 minutes south on foot along the beachfront path. Grilled-squid vendors set up along the route, and their charcoal smoke starts drifting around 11am. Discovery Shores and The Lind Boracay anchor the high end of Station 1, running PHP 12,000 to 25,000 ($191 to $398) per night. Even the smaller guesthouses at this end tend to have air conditioning, which matters more than the view when the wet season sets in. The beach path smells like plumeria most mornings, and by evening the only sound from the water side is the low slap of waves on wet sand.

Station 2 is the commercial center of the island. D'Mall, Boracay's open-air shopping strip, sits here alongside most of the ATMs, pharmacies, and dive shops. The beach narrows to about 10 to 15 meters, and by mid-afternoon the foot traffic is heavy. Bars along the beachfront run until 2am most nights, and the bass carries into any room facing the water. Mid-range rooms at Station 2 run PHP 3,000 to 6,000 ($48 to $96). Station 3, the south end, is where budget travelers settle. Rooms at PHP 1,500 to 3,000 ($24 to $48) are common, though some feel damp in the wet months. The beach at Station 3 might be 5 meters wide at high tide in September. That said, you're closer to Cagban Jetty Port, which saves a tricycle fare on arrival day. Food stalls near Station 3 serve chicken inasal and pork sisig for PHP 120 to 180 ($2 to $3), at prices that Station 1 restaurants triple.

Diniwid Beach sits a 5-minute walk north past Station 1, over a rocky headland. You'll hear waves instead of reggae covers. A handful of small resorts line this cove, maybe 200 meters end to end. Rooms run PHP 5,000 to 15,000 ($80 to $239). The trade-off is real. No restaurants after 9pm, no convenience stores, and a rough scramble over rocks to get back to White Beach after dark. Bring a headlamp. Bulabog Beach, on the island's east side facing the Sibuyan Sea, catches the habagat winds from June through October. This is the kitesurfing strip, and you'll hear kite lines snapping all afternoon. Hotels here cost PHP 2,500 to 5,000 ($40 to $80). The water is not swimmable on the Bulabog side during wind season because of seagrass and chop. If you're not here for wind sports, skip Bulabog.

September through November is the wettest period on Boracay, with afternoon thunderstorms most days. Humidity currently sits at 96% with temperatures around 25°C, and rooms without working air conditioning become miserable fast. Confirm AC in your booking, not a ceiling fan. The island was closed from April 26 to October 25, 2018, for a government-ordered environmental rehabilitation, and daily visitor caps remain in effect. You'll pay environmental and terminal fees in PHP at Cagban Jetty, so keep cash handy. The main White Beach path stays well-lit and populated until midnight.
