When's the best time to visit Mykonos in 2026?

Late May through June is likely the sweet spot for a first visit to Mykonos. Daytime temperatures hover around 25-28°C, the meltemi winds that hammer the Cyclades in July and August haven't kicked in yet, and the water at Elia Beach and Agios Sostis is warm enough for swimming at 21-23°C. Chora's Matoyianni Street has its restaurants and bars open, but you can still get a table at Nikolas Taverna or M-eating without a reservation. The Delos archaeological site, a 30-minute boat ride from the Old Port, runs its full schedule of morning departures, with round-trip tickets around €22. Hotel rates in Ornos or Platis Gialos tend to run 30-40% below August prices, with doubles starting near €120-150 per night. September shares most of these advantages. Sea temperatures peak around 24-25°C after a full summer of warming, and the light over Chora shifts to a warmer tone by early evening.

July and August are when Mykonos becomes what the travel posters sell. The meltemi, a strong northerly wind, blows at 30-50 km/h on many afternoons. It turns south-facing beaches like Paradise and Super Paradise into the sheltered choice, while north-facing Panormos gets choppy and unswimmable. Temperatures reach 30-33°C, and shade is scarce outside Chora's narrow alleys. A sunbed at Psarou Beach costs €40-80 for two, and a lunch plate of grilled octopus along the Chora waterfront might run €22-28. Cruise ships pull in daily, sometimes three or four at once, and Little Venice gets so packed by 6pm that the sunset photos you've seen online are taken elbow-to-elbow. If the nightlife scene at Cavo Paradiso or Scorpios is the whole point of your trip, this is the only window that delivers it.

April still feels tentative on Mykonos. December through March brings 10-14°C, rain, and a near-ghost-town atmosphere outside a handful of year-round spots in Chora.

In early June, the Aegean Maritime Museum on Enoplon Dynameon Street keeps extended hours, the Sanctuary of Poseidon and Amphitrite at Kionia is accessible without the summer heat, and you can walk from Fabrika Square to Little Venice at golden hour without being swept along in a crowd. The smell of grilled halloumi and thyme drifts from the souvlaki stands near the Old Port. Evenings cool to 20-22°C, warm enough for sitting outside at Kounelas on Matoyianni without needing a layer. Late September adds ripe figs at the Ano Mera market and water so warm at 24°C that you'll stay in past sunset.
