How do I get to Cusco?

Cusco has no direct flights from North America or Europe. Nearly every international visitor connects through Lima, and that connection is the trip's logistical crux. From the US East Coast, nonstop to Lima takes 7-8 hours on LATAM, Delta, or American for $500-900 round-trip. From the West Coast, add 2 hours and roughly $150. From London, British Airways and LATAM fly nonstop in about 12.5 hours for £650-1,100. Once at Jorge Chávez (LIM), the domestic leg to Cusco runs on three carriers. LATAM has 8-10 daily frequencies. Sky Airline and JetSMART compete hard, with one-way fares dropping to $50 in May and June. Book the domestic leg separately when budgets are tight. A combined international-plus-domestic ticket on LATAM can cost $80-120 more than buying the Cusco hop on a low-cost carrier.

The runway handles only narrow-body jets, and all flights are restricted to daylight. Morning departures from Lima, the 5:30-7:00 AM window, tend to arrive on schedule. Afternoon flights get delayed 30-90 minutes roughly 40% of the time during the October-March wet season, when cloud settles into the valley floor. The terminal is small. You walk across tarmac to reach it, and if you land at dawn the cold bites immediately. August mornings run around 5°C with near-total humidity. Most hotels in San Blas offer coca tea at check-in. It's a bitter, slightly grassy infusion that takes the edge off, at least a little. Do not plan anything ambitious for your first afternoon.
