How do I get from the airport to Chengdu?

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport sits roughly 50 km southeast of the old city center. It opened in June 2021 and now handles most international arrivals. Metro Line 18 is the clear first choice. The fare to stations like Century City or the Southern Railway Station connection comes in under 10 CNY, and the ride takes about 50 minutes to the southern business district. From there, transfer to Line 1 northbound for Tianfu Square or the Chunxi Road shopping area. That transfer adds another 15-20 minutes. Trains start around 6:20am with the last departure from TFU at roughly 10:30pm. The stations are signed in both English and Chinese, and you can tap through the turnstiles with Alipay or WeChat Pay if you've set up either app. The air conditioning on the metro cars hits hard after the warm, humid arrivals hall. The platform at TFU sits deep underground, so budget 10 minutes from the baggage carousel to the train doors.

After 10:30pm or if you have heavy luggage, Didi (China's main ride-hailing app) is the backup. Landing at CTU with a hotel shuttle booked from TFU is a mistake that happens more often than you'd expect.

A few things about Chengdu arrivals that most guides skip. The humidity hits you the moment you step outside either terminal.
