When's the best time to visit Antalya in 2026?

April through mid-June is when Antalya works best for a first visit. Daytime temperatures sit between 22°C and 28°C. The air smells like pine resin drifting down from the Taurus range, and the stone alleys of Kaleiçi stay cool enough to walk at midday. Wildflowers carpet the hillside around Termessos, the mountain ruins 34 km northwest of the city center, where you'll have entire Roman theaters to yourself on a Tuesday morning. The sea is still cool in April, about 18°C, but by late May it reaches 22°C and Konyaaltı Beach fills with locals on weekday evenings. Hotel rates along Lara Beach run 400-700 TRY per night for a decent 4-star, roughly 40% less than the same room in August. That said, April still gets 30-40mm of rain, usually in short afternoon bursts that clear within 20 minutes.

September and October are the other strong months, and some locals will tell you October is the single best month. The summer heat drops from its August peak of 34-38°C to a manageable 27-30°C in September, then 22-25°C by mid-October. The Mediterranean holds its warmth longer than the air. Sea temperatures hover around 26°C through September and stay above 23°C into late October, which makes the beach season feel extended past what the calendar suggests. Düden Waterfalls run fuller after the dry summer, and the spray off the lower falls catches afternoon light in a way the parched July version never does. Perge, the roughly 3,000-year-old city 15 km east, is walkable again without the bleached-white glare that makes summer visits to open-air ruins feel punishing. Crowds thin after the German school holidays end in mid-September.

July and August are when most visitors arrive, and they probably shouldn't, unless the beach is the whole point and heat isn't an issue. Afternoon highs reach 34-38°C with humidity around 65-70% near the coast. Kaleiçi's narrow streets trap the heat, and the stone underfoot radiates it back at you. The Russian and German charter-flight circuit fills Lara Beach's all-inclusive corridor to capacity. Rooms that cost 500 TRY in May run 1,200+ TRY in peak August. Antalya Museum in Konyaaltı, founded in 1922 and still one of Turkey's best archaeological collections, gets so packed by 11am that you're shoulder-to-shoulder in the sarcophagus hall. If you do come in summer, go early. Be at Hadrian's Gate by 8am, when the stone is still cool and the tour buses haven't pulled up. Shift outdoor time to after 5pm, when the light turns amber and the tea gardens along the old harbor start setting out chairs.

Winter is a different proposition. December through February brings 10-15°C days, 150-250mm of rain per month, and grey skies that sit heavy on the Taurus peaks. The coast doesn't freeze, and on a clear January afternoon you might get 16°C with no wind, warm enough for coffee on the harbor wall. But this is not beach weather. It is, however, the cheapest and emptiest the city gets. Karain Cave, one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in Turkey, sits 27 km northwest and feels properly eerie when you visit on a quiet winter weekday. A meal for two at a lokanta in Kaleiçi currently runs about 300-400 TRY, roughly $7-9 USD at the June 2026 rate. You won't need a reservation. Mind you, some coastal restaurants and boat-tour operators close entirely from November through March.
