The jet-ski damage scam is Pattaya's signature hustle and it targets solo travelers specifically. A vendor on Pattaya Beach rents you a jet ski for 1,500 THB per half hour, about 46 USD at current rates. When you return it, they point to a scratch that was there before you climbed on, demand 20,000 to 50,000 THB, and a friend in a police uniform appears. Mind you, this still happens in 2026. The countermeasure is simple. Film a 360-degree video of the jet ski before you touch it, with the vendor in frame, and share the video with a friend over Wi-Fi before you ride. Drink spiking in the Walking Street and Soi 6 bars is the other risk worth naming. It happens to men more often than women in Pattaya, which is unusual. Never accept an opened drink from someone you met that night, and stick to bottled beer you watched the bartender open.

Getting around solo after dark is manageable if you use Grab, which works reliably in Pattaya for both cars and motorbike taxis with fixed pricing. The songthaews, covered pickup trucks that loop Beach Road and Second Road, run for 10 THB per ride until about 10 pm. After that, drivers start quoting 200 to 400 THB for the same route. A Grab car from Walking Street to Naklua costs 80 to 120 THB at 2 am. For solo stays, the hostels along Soi Buakhao have private rooms from 350 THB, about 11 USD per night, and the common areas tend to smell like fresh pad thai from the street carts outside. You'll likely meet other solo travelers within an hour at places like Hops Brew House on Soi Buakhao or the rooftop bar at Hilton Pattaya. Worth noting, Pattaya's expat community runs regular meetups through Facebook groups with 30,000-plus members, so long-stay isolation is less of an issue here than in most Thai beach towns.

For female solo travelers, Naklua and Jomtien are the neighborhoods where you'll feel least hassled. The beachfront Jomtien stretch between Soi 5 and Soi 12 has well-lit sidewalks and a steady presence of families after sunset, the sound of waves mixing with Thai pop from the seafood restaurants. Central Pattaya between Soi 7 and Soi 13 is fine during daylight but gets persistent attention from bar touts after dark. Walking Street itself is safe from violent crime.
