How do I get from the airport to Pattaya?

Pattaya has no commercial airport. Nearly every international flight lands at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), about 120 km northwest along Motorway 7. U-Tapao International Airport (UTP) sits about 30 km south of Pattaya on a former Royal Thai Navy airfield. A handful of budget carriers, including AirAsia, fly there from cities across Southeast Asia. If you land at UTP, the transfer is simple. Taxis line up outside the single terminal building. The ride to central Pattaya takes 30 to 40 minutes and costs 500 to 800 THB ($15 to $24). There is no public bus worth taking. The terminal smells faintly of jet fuel and warm tarmac, and it's quiet enough to hear the ceiling fans. Mind you, UTP handles far fewer routes than Suvarnabhumi. Don't reroute your itinerary to save 90 minutes of ground transfer unless the airfare gap is substantial.

The stretch of motorway between Bangkok and Pattaya runs flat and well-maintained, four lanes each direction through sugarcane and cassava fields.
