When's the best time to visit Pattaya in 2026?

Pattaya's dry season runs from November through February. Afternoon highs sit around 28-31°C, and the breeze coming off the Gulf at Jomtien feels dry and warm rather than heavy. You can see Ko Lan from the Bali Hai Pier without squinting through haze on most days. Mind you, this is also when half of Bangkok drives the 90 minutes down Motorway 7 for the weekend, so Friday through Sunday on Pattaya Beach gets packed. Weekday mornings are a different story. The northern stretch of Jomtien, past Soi 12, tends to be quiet before 10am, with a few joggers and the fresh-coconut vendors setting up their carts.

March sits in a gray zone. Temperatures reach 34-35°C by midday, and the air thickens with humidity climbing back toward 75%. If heat does not bother you, March is a reasonable month to visit Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, which opened in 1980 and covers some 2.4 square kilometers south of the city. The canopy shades the walking paths enough that ground-level temperature drops several degrees, and the orchid houses smell like damp bark and honey. April is harder to recommend. Songkran (April 13-15) turns Walking Street and Second Road into a 3-day water fight that makes normal sightseeing impossible. Some travelers come specifically for Songkran. Everyone else should skip April.

June through October is monsoon territory. This is Pattaya right now, in late August, sitting at 29°C and 71% humidity under overcast skies, with a hard 45-minute downpour likely sometime between 2pm and 5pm. The rain is warm, not cold, and it smells like wet concrete and plumeria. Roads along Soi Buakhao flood knee-deep after a heavy burst, sometimes within 20 minutes. Prices drop 40-50% from the December peak, and Jomtien's beachfront seafood places run half-empty on weeknights. September and October are the wettest months, each dumping around 200-250mm. The sea gets rougher too, and speedboat services to Ko Lan get cancelled on short notice during squalls.

For a first visit, aim for the second or third week of November. Russian and Chinese tour groups have not arrived in force yet, since that wave hits mid-December. A mid-range hotel near Jomtien Soi 5 runs roughly 1,500-2,000 THB per night in November (about 46-61 USD at current rates). By New Year's Eve week, expect to pay closer to 2,500-2,800 THB for the same room. The Sanctuary of Truth on Naklua's northern headland, a still-unfinished hand-carved teak temple under construction since 1981, is far more comfortable to walk through when temperatures sit below 32°C, since much of the complex is open-air and unshaded. Viharn Sien, the Chinese art museum 15 minutes south, follows the same pattern. Both reward a dry-season morning visit before the tour buses arrive around 11am.
