Where can I run in Paris?
Run in the Bois de Vincennes, on Paris's eastern edge, where 5K loop A stays inside the park with no street running and no major-road crossing, making it the best first run for a newcomer. For 10K, loop A is still the right choice. If you are staying in the west, the Bois de Boulogne's 5K loop C has the longest car-free run of the set.
All five measured loops sit in Paris's two big woods: the Bois de Vincennes on the eastern edge of the 12th arrondissement and the Bois de Boulogne on the western edge of the 16th. None of them follows the Seine quays or circles the Champ de Mars under the Eiffel Tower. Plenty of visitors run along the Seine anyway, but this guide covered the two woods and makes no claim about crossings or footway on the quays. For a first trip, go east to Vincennes unless your hotel is west of the Arc de Triomphe.
From the Marais, Bastille, or the Latin Quarter, Metro Line 1 reaches Château de Vincennes in roughly 15 minutes from Bastille, putting you at the medieval château on the park's northern edge. Line 8 drops you at Porte Dorée on the park's western side, and Lac Daumesnil, the big lake with two small islands, sits about a 5-minute walk south-east of that exit. That lake is the easiest landmark to find your bearings by on a dark October morning, and further east, Lac des Minimes is the second to steer by. In late October the Bois de Vincennes tends to smell of wet leaves and lake water, and at 07:30 you are more likely to hear crows than traffic.
Run 5K loop A first: it is the only loop in the set with no street, no crossing, and footway for most of its length, so you can hold a steady pace on jet-lagged legs without stopping at a light. Save 5K loop B for a second morning in Vincennes, when a change of scenery matters more than footway. At 10K, loop A beats loop B on every measured count, with fewer crossings, a longer car-free run, and more footway. Its four crossings, including Rue Chapsal and Avenue du Général Gallieni, sit on the Joinville-le-Pont side, south-east of the park, so expect those waits in the second half of the run.
The Bois de Boulogne makes sense if you are sleeping in the 16th or 17th arrondissement or near Porte Maillot; from those neighborhoods, Vincennes is roughly a 40-minute ride on Metro Line 1 across the city. To get in, take Line 2 or RER C to Porte Dauphine, at the end of Avenue Foch, and Lac Inférieur, the park's largest lake, is roughly a 10-minute walk west along Route de Suresnes. From Porte Maillot on Line 1, Allée de Longchamp runs south-west into the woods toward the Hippodrome de Longchamp. Of the five loops, 5K loop C has the longest unbroken car-free running, which matters most on a cold start before sunrise. The cost is a short street approach and two waits on Allée de Longchamp, so come to a full stop at both Longchamp crossings rather than rolling through them.

Each loop was computed over OpenStreetMap paths by our routing engine and measured independently. The figure, the numbers and the GPX file describe the same stored route.
5K loop A from Bois de Vincennes
4.85 km loop
The best first run in Paris. It starts inside the Bois de Vincennes, uses 0 m of connecting street and crosses no major road, so there is nothing to wait at. The longest car-free stretch runs 2232 m, and 59% of the 4.85 km is footway, the highest share of any loop here.

5K loop B from Bois de Vincennes
4.79 km loop
This loop is also in the Bois de Vincennes, with no connecting street and no major-road crossing over its 4.79 km, but the trade-off shows in the figures: its longest car-free stretch is 1409 m and its footway share drops to 35%, meaning more of the loop runs on paths that are not footway. Run it as a second-day variation, not on your first morning.

5K loop C from bois de Boulogne
4.97 km loop
The Bois de Boulogne option for anyone staying in the west, best reached from Porte Maillot or Porte Dauphine, with the longest car-free stretch in the set at 3741 m and 53% of its 4.97 km as footway. The cost is 294 m of connecting street and 2 major-road crossings, both on Allée de Longchamp.

10K loop B from Bois de Vincennes
9.53 km loop
Shorter at 9.53 km but busier. The count found 5 major-road crossings, four of them on Avenue du Général Leclerc, Avenue de la République, Avenue Léon Blum and Quai de la République, and both the longest car-free stretch (1708 m) and the footway share (42%) fall below 10K loop A's figures, which is why A wins.

Before an early start
- Open-Meteo read 6.0°C (feels like 4.4°C) at 07:00 on 19 October, with 90% humidity and a clear sky. Pack gloves and a long-sleeve layer.
- Paris sunrise in late October comes around 08:15 CEST, so a 07:00 start puts you in the dark. Lighting on these loops was not measured.
- Metro Line 1 terminates at Château de Vincennes, while Line 8 stops at Porte Dorée, about 5 minutes on foot from Lac Daumesnil.
- For the Bois de Boulogne, Line 2 and RER C stop at Porte Dauphine, and Line 1 stops at Porte Maillot.
- Drinking fountains were not part of the measurement, so carry about 500 ml of water on either 10K loop.
