What's a good 3-day itinerary for Punta Cana?

Punta Cana is not a city. It is a 50-km coastal strip of resorts, golf courses, and gated communities running from Uvero Alto in the north to Cap Cana in the south. There is no old town, no metro, no sidewalk grid. Your hotel shuttle or a taxi is how you move. A ride from Bávaro to Cap Cana runs about 1,200 DOP, roughly 20 USD at the September 2026 rate of 59 pesos to the dollar. Agree on the fare before you get in. The heat sits around 28°C with humidity near 77%, so mornings before 10 AM are the productive window. By noon the asphalt radiates enough to feel through your sandals. September afternoons typically bring a hard rain between 2 PM and 4 PM, loud enough to drown out the pool music at most resorts.

Day 1 stays in Bávaro, the commercial core of the strip. Bávaro Beach runs 5 km of pale sand with warm, shallow water that rarely produces waves taller than a foot. Walk north toward Cortecito. You'll hear bachata leaking from bar speakers before you see the wooden storefronts. The colmados sell Presidente beer for 100 DOP a bottle.
