What's happening in Miami this week?

Miami in late June runs on a predictable wet-season clock. Mornings break warm, around 28-30°C by 9am, with humidity already above 75%. The sky stays cooperative until roughly 3pm, when a thunderstorm cell builds over the Everglades and rolls east across Doral and into downtown. It lasts 20-40 minutes, dumps hard, and clears. The Coconut Grove market is smaller, more residential, and you can find parking before 11am. South Beach gets loud on Saturday nights. Sunday brunch fills restaurants across Coral Gables and the Design District from 10am to 2pm. The line at Versailles on Calle Ocho starts before 10am, and the cafe con leche there costs $2.50 for a ventanita pour that's thick, sweet, and strong enough to carry you through the afternoon heat.

First-timers tend to stay locked on South Beach and miss the city's actual weekly pulse. Brickell and Wynwood are where Miami residents spend their Wednesday-through-Saturday evenings. The Metromover, the free elevated train, connects Brickell to downtown and runs every few minutes during peak hours. It's air-conditioned. Use it. The other first-timer mistake is underestimating the June afternoon storms. Lightning is a real hazard on the beach between 2pm and 5pm. Miami-Dade County sees roughly 70 thunderstorm days per year, most of them concentrated in this window. When the sky turns grey-green over the western horizon around 3pm, get indoors. The storms pass in under an hour, and the post-rain light over Biscayne Bay from Bayfront Park, the 32-acre waterfront green that opened in 1925, turns copper and pink around 8:15pm.
