What's happening in Miami this week?

The Biscayne Bay speedboat runs about 45 minutes, with salt spray hitting your face and the Downtown skyline sliding past. The Pérez Art Museum Miami, founded in 1984, sits on the waterfront at Museum Park and opens daily except Wednesday. Its hanging gardens catch the bay breeze, and the second-floor terrace has one of the best free views of PortMiami. A few things that catch first-timers off guard in Miami. The neighborhoods spread across 15 miles of coastline. A walk from South Beach to Wynwood takes over an hour in the midday heat. The Metromover is free and air-conditioned for the Downtown-Brickell loop, but for anything else budget $15-25 per rideshare between major areas. Tap water tastes faintly of sulfur in some older Miami Beach buildings. Restaurants in South Beach tend to add an automatic 18% gratuity for all party sizes, and visitors often tip on top of it without realizing. Dinner in Brickell runs $25-45 per person at mid-range spots. Little Havana runs cheaper, $12-18 for a full plate of ropa vieja with rice, beans, and maduros at the counters along Calle Ocho. Those fried plantains are crisp on the outside with a soft caramel center, about $3 at most counters.
