When's the best time to visit Buenos Aires in 2026?

November is the month we'd pick for a first visit. The jacarandas peak around the middle of the month, and their fallen blossoms leave a sticky violet carpet on the sidewalks of Avenida 9 de Julio near the Obelisco. Late in November the tilo (linden) trees on Recoleta's side streets come into flower, and their honey smell drifts over the terrace at La Biela. The Colón Theater is well into its season by then, and the upper-gallery seats tend to be the cheapest way in. Buenos Aires Pride, the Marcha del Orgullo, usually fills Avenida de Mayo between Plaza de Mayo and Congreso on the first Saturday of November. Spring has one catch. A sudestada, the cold southeast wind off the Río de la Plata, can bring two grey days of sideways rain with little warning. Winter, from June to August, is cheaper but raw. Damp cold seeps through the stone walls of older San Telmo apartments, and many have no central heating, so check a listing for a split-system heater before you book. The two-week school break in July pushes local families into the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium in Palermo. August has one strong argument in its favor: the Tango BA Festival y Mundial usually runs for about two weeks in the second half of the month, with free milongas and the world championship finals at venues across the city.
