What's a good 3-day itinerary for Dubai?

Day 1 walks Old Dubai — Al Fahidi at dawn, abra across the Creek, Deira's spice and gold souks. Day 2 goes vertical in Downtown: Dubai Frame, Burj Khalifa, the fountain show at dusk. Day 3 heads west to JBR Beach and Palm Jumeirah by monorail. About 60 kilometres total, mostly taxi and metro between outdoor stops.

Start at Al Fahidi before 8am. The narrow sand-coloured lanes still hold the night's coolness at that hour, and the only sound is pigeons and the distant thrum of abra engines on the Creek. Arabian Tea House does a solid breakfast — shakshuka in a cast-iron skillet, cardamom coffee, maybe 45 AED for two dishes. The Dubai Museum inside Al Fahidi Fort takes forty minutes; it's dated but gives you enough context to read the rest of the old quarter. By 10am, walk to the Creek and take the abra — one dirham, wooden boat, two minutes across. The smell hits you first in the Spice Souk: saffron, dried limes, frankincense stacked in burlap sacks. Gold Souk is three blocks north. You don't need to buy anything; the sheer weight of yellow in those display windows is the point. Lunch at Al Ustad Special Kebab in Bur Dubai — a cramped place with terrible signage and lamb kebabs that have been exactly this good since 1978. About 50 AED for a full plate.

Day 2 starts at Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park — 50 AED entry, opens at 9am, the glass floor 150 metres up makes your stomach drop even though you know it's fine. From there, taxi or metro to Downtown. Pre-book the Burj Khalifa's 124th-floor deck for 10:30am (199 AED at prime time; 149 AED if you go after 5pm — but morning means clearer air and less haze). The view is almost absurd: the city thins into beige desert in every direction. Lunch at Tresind Studio if you want a proper meal, or the Thai counter at Dubai Mall's food court if you'd rather keep moving. The aquarium inside the mall is worth twenty minutes even if you don't pay — the viewing panel is free from the ground floor. Stay in the Downtown cluster until 6pm for the first Dubai Fountain show. The jets shoot 150 metres and the spray drifts over you if you stand at the Souk Al Bahar bridge. The evening is warm enough for a terrace dinner at Zuma in DIFC, ten minutes by taxi.

Day 3 is the coast. JBR Beach by 8am — the sand is still cool enough to walk barefoot before 9, and the Gulf water sits around 26°C in spring. Walk the JBR promenade for coffee (% Arabica does a clean flat white for 22 AED). By 11am, head to Dubai Marina for the walk along the water — yachts, the mechanical hum of construction cranes that never seem to stop in this city, and an absurd number of brunch restaurants competing for your attention. Take the Palm Jumeirah Monorail from the Gateway station at noon (30 AED return). The Pointe at the far end gives you the postcard Atlantis shot, and the food court there is honest about its prices. If you want the Atlantis Aquaventure waterpark, budget half a day and 349 AED — it's good but it's a full commitment. Otherwise, loop back by 3pm and spend the late afternoon at a beach club like Zero Gravity or drift up to Bluewaters Island for the sunset. Dinner at Pier 7 in the Marina: seven restaurants stacked in one tower, pick a cuisine on the way up.

A few things that aren't obvious until you're on the ground. Dubai is a driving city; the distances between clusters are 15-20 km. The metro covers Downtown and the Marina but doesn't reach Old Dubai's souks directly — you'll need to walk from Al Fahidi metro or take a taxi for 15 AED. Taxis are cheap by Western standards, maybe 35 AED for a 15-minute ride, and Careem works like Uber. The heat is real even in the mild months: 25-30°C with thick humidity means you'll want indoor breaks between 11am and 3pm. Every mall is aggressively air-conditioned to the point where a light layer is worth carrying. Friday is the holy day, so some restaurants open late and the souks might not stir until mid-morning.
