What's a good 3-day itinerary for Montego Bay?

Montego Bay's tourist corridor runs about 3 km from Sam Sharpe Square downtown to the roundabout at the top of Gloucester Avenue, locally called the Hip Strip. Day 1 stays inside that band. Start at Doctor's Cave Beach by 8:30am, before cruise-ship passengers arrive from the port 2 km south. Entry costs about 600 JMD, roughly $4 USD. The water sits near 29°C in September, warm enough that you walk straight in. Swim until 10, then head south on Gloucester Avenue to the Pork Pit, where pimento-wood smoke reaches you from half a block away. A quarter-chicken with festival, the sweet fried dumplings with a slight crunch on the outside, costs about 800 JMD. Continue south 15 minutes on foot to Sam Sharpe Square, named for the national hero whose 1831 Christmas Rebellion accelerated emancipation across the British Caribbean. The cage monument and courthouse sit on the square's north side. Most Blessed Sacrament Cathedral stands one block east. Finish at Pier 1 on Howard Cooke Boulevard, where the sunset drops straight into the harbour.

Day 2 heads east along the A1. You'll need a taxi for the 14 km to Rose Hall. Rose Hall Great House, a Georgian plantation built in 1770, opens at 9am. The 45-minute guided tour leans on the Annie Palmer ghost story, which is folklore, but the restored mahogany interiors and the second-floor view down to the coast earn the 3,000 JMD admission on their own. Continue 5 km east to Greenwood Great House, which is quieter and holds an intact collection of antique musical instruments and Wedgwood china. Admission runs about 2,800 JMD. Head back to Montego Bay for lunch at the Houseboat Grill, a converted vessel moored in Bogue Lagoon. Grilled lobster costs around 4,500 JMD. The afternoon heat currently sits near 33°C with a feels-like closer to 38°C. Spend those hours at the air-conditioned Whitter Village shopping centre on Ironshore for cold Appleton rum punch. Dinner at Marguerite's on Gloucester Avenue, where the seafood pasta runs about 3,500 JMD and you eat 3 metres from the water.

Day 3 continues east into Trelawny Parish. Martha Brae River sits about 25 km from the Hip Strip, roughly 40 minutes by taxi. Bamboo rafting launches from Rafter's Village at 8:30am. A 90-minute trip on a 9-metre raft, poled by a licensed captain, costs around 5,000 JMD per raft for two. The river runs narrow under ficus and bamboo canopy, the only sounds the pole against the limestone bed and John Crows circling above.
