How do I get from the airport to Orlando?

MCO has two terminal complexes connected by an automated people mover that smells faintly of new carpet and recycled air. Terminal C opened in September 2022 and handles most international arrivals. Follow signs to Ground Transportation on Level 2. The walk from gate to curb takes 15-20 minutes at the older Terminal A/B, about 10 at Terminal C. MCO sits 11 miles southeast of the International Drive tourist corridor and roughly 25 miles from Walt Disney World's main gate on World Drive. Those 25 miles might not look far on a map, but I-4 traffic between MCO and the parks tends to add 20-30 extra minutes between 4pm and 7pm. A 25-minute trip at 10am can become 50 minutes by late afternoon.

Uber and Lyft pick up from designated zones on Level 2 at Terminal A/B and the Ground Transportation level at Terminal C. Budget $20-30 to International Drive or the Convention Center district, $35-55 to Walt Disney World's resort hotels in Lake Buena Vista, and $45-65 to Universal Orlando on Universal Boulevard. Those fares tend to rise 1.5-2x during surge hours around 5-7pm on Fridays and when the Orange County Convention Center has a major show. Taxis at MCO use meters. A metered ride to I-Drive runs roughly $30-40, consistently more than a standard Uber on a normal day. That said, MCO taxis don't surge. If you land at 10pm during a convention weekend, the metered taxi might beat the surge-priced Uber by $15-20. Check both apps while you're still walking through the air-conditioned terminal before stepping into the thick, warm Florida evening.

For Walt Disney World, two shuttle services currently run from MCO. Mears Connect charges $16 per adult one-way ($13.50 for children ages 3-9) for a shared van that stops at multiple Disney resort hotels before reaching yours. Expect 45-75 minutes door to door. The Sunshine Flyer costs $17 per adult and runs themed buses to Disney resorts only. Both require advance booking through their websites. Neither covers Universal, SeaWorld, or I-Drive hotels. Mind you, Disney eliminated its complimentary Magical Express shuttle in January 2022, so there is no free airport transfer to the parks anymore. If your hotel sits on I-Drive near Universal, Mears runs a standard shared ride for about $23 per person, but at that price an Uber split between two people is faster and cheaper.

Orlando's metro area covers over 4,000 square miles, and the theme parks sit 15-30 miles apart along the I-4 corridor. If you plan to visit Walt Disney World, Universal Epic Universe (which opened in May 2025), and SeaWorld during a single trip, daily ride-share costs between parks and your hotel will run $40-80 round trip. A rental car from MCO's integrated garage in Terminal C costs $45-75 per day with full coverage. It gives you the freedom to stop at a Publix on Turkey Lake Road for $1 water bottles instead of paying $5.50 at the park gates. The heat at MCO's curb in summer sits around 90-95°F with humidity that fogs your sunglasses the moment you step outside. From June through September, a rental car with air conditioning feels less like a luxury and more like survival gear. The one exception is if you're staying on Disney property and only visiting Disney parks. The resort's bus, monorail, and Skyliner gondola system can move you between the 4 Disney parks without renting a car.

Lynx public transit serves MCO, but the coverage is thin. Route 11 departs every 30 minutes for downtown Orlando's central station on Lynx Central Boulevard, taking 40-50 minutes and costing $2. There is no direct bus from MCO to any theme park. You'd transfer at least once, stretching a 25-mile trip to 90+ minutes with your luggage balanced on your lap. SunRail commuter rail doesn't reach MCO, and Brightline's Terminal C station connects south to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, not into Orlando. After midnight, Uber, Lyft, and taxis are your only options since Lynx buses stop running at 11:30pm. Download the Uber or Lyft app before your flight so you can request a car while still inside MCO's air-conditioned terminal.
