Segovia's old town compresses two thousand years of stone into a walkable crescent between the Roman aqueduct and the Alcázar, and nearly every hostel and budget bed falls inside that crescent or just below the aqueduct's arches along Avenida del Acueducto. This is not a city that splits neatly into rival quarters the way Madrid or Barcelona do: the cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, and the roast-lamb mesones all sit within the same fifteen-minute walk, so the real question is not which neighborhood but which altitude: high inside the walled old town, where streets narrow and suitcase wheels catch on cobbles, or low near the aqueduct plaza, where the bus station and the cheaper beds cluster. One area dominates the traveler inventory, and the budget tier here punches well above its price.
