Savannah eats the way its squares are laid out: on a grid of easy walks, with the good tables tucked a block off the obvious ones. The list below runs from a wood-fired Neapolitan pie shop in the Thomas Square blocks down to a River Street Greek room, and includes a downtown diner that opens at 08:00, a Habersham Street deli built around Arab and Mediterranean cooking, and a two-shift Bull Street kitchen that leans Asian and fusion. It is a list for a visitor who has three or four meals to spend and does not want to give them all to the same three River Street patios. Hours matter here more than in most cities: a lot of the best kitchens keep short, honest windows, some closing by 14:00, some not opening the door until 17:00, one running until 03:30 on the weekend.
