This time of year in Lima means garúa. The sky from Callao to San Isidro stays a flat grey, the air feels damp against your skin, and a fine coastal mist settles on your jacket without ever producing an actual raindrop, so skip the umbrella. A light waterproof layer helps after 3pm near the Malecón in Miraflores, where the marine layer off the Pacific thickens. The upside of winter here is that UV stays low and the city's roughly 10 million residents are not competing for the same sidewalk tables that pack out during the warm months. The Larco Museum in Pueblo Libre, open since 1926, goes dark. MALI in Parque de la Exposición follows the same cycle. Plan your Miraflores and Barranco walks for Monday instead. Barranco's smaller galleries along Avenida Pedro de Osma keep Thursday-through-Sunday hours, with openings on Thursday evenings that spill onto the sidewalk. After 6pm on weekends, the smell of anticuchos fills the blocks around Parque Municipal de Barranco. Beef hearts char over coal, brushed with ají panca, and the smoke is thick enough to taste from half a block away.
