When's the best time to visit Jaipur in 2026?

November through February is when Jaipur cooperates. Daytime highs sit between 22 and 25°C, and mornings at Amber Fort, built in 1592, start crisp enough for a light jacket. By midday the courtyard stones warm to 30°C under your feet. Evenings in the Pink City drop to 8-10°C in January, cold enough that the chai stalls along Johari Bazaar do their best business after dark, the smell of cardamom and ginger drifting 20 metres down the lane. This is peak season, though. Hotel rates in C Scheme and near MI Road climb 40-60% over October prices, and Hawa Mahal's narrow staircases, built in 1799, get congested by 10am. Book the 8am entry if you want the 953 honeycomb windows to yourself.

January has the most to offer. Makar Sankranti on January 14 fills the sky above the walled city with thousands of paper kites. You watch from rooftops along Chaura Rasta, the sound of cotton string cutting through wind. The Jaipur Literature Festival, usually held in the last week of January at Diggi Palace, draws over 300,000 visitors across 5 days. Room rates during that week tend to double. If the crowds deter you, the first two weeks of February are likely the better window. Clear skies, 24°C afternoons, and noticeably fewer tour buses at City Palace, which dates to 1732 and still houses the royal family in its Chandra Mahal wing.

October and March are the shoulder months. October follows the rains, and the Aravalli hills behind Nahargarh Fort look greener than any other time of year. Temperatures run 30-33°C, warm but manageable if you start by 7am and spend the midday hours inside the Albert Hall Museum, built in 1887 and one of the few air-conditioned retreats in the old quarter. March stays comfortable through mid-month at 30-32°C. You might catch Holi, when the streets near Tripolia Gate erupt in clouds of colored gulal powder and the air tastes sharp and chalky. By late March, daily highs cross 35°C and climb from there.

Avoid April through June. Jaipur sits at the edge of the Thar Desert, and May highs reach 43-45°C. The exposed stone ramparts of the hilltop forts feel like the inside of a kiln by noon; even locals stay behind shuttered doors between 12pm and 4pm. Monsoon arrives in early July and lasts through September. Rain drops the temperature to 25-32°C, but the streets around Chandpol Gate flood regularly, and Jal Mahal, the lake palace on Man Sagar Lake, sits in water that rises unpredictably. Humidity climbs past 75%. Mind you, hotel prices during monsoon drop 50-70% from peak rates. If you're on a tight budget and willing to plan around afternoon downpours, September tends to be the least wet of the three monsoon months.

A mid-range hotel near the Pink City walls runs ₹3,000-5,000 per night in high season, roughly $32-53 at the current rate of 95 INR to the dollar. During JLF week or Republic Day on January 26, the same room costs ₹6,000-8,000. Budget guesthouses inside the walled quarter sit closer to ₹1,200-1,800. For a quieter half-day during peak season, head to Sisodiya Rani Bagh, the terraced Mughal garden from 1728 on the Agra road. The fountain courts rarely see more than a dozen visitors before noon.
