Where to stay
Fira for a first visit. It is the island's only bus hub, 5 minutes on foot from the Archaeological Museum and 8 from the cable car, with caldera-facing rooms at €90-220 per night. Firostefani, 10 minutes north on foot, gives the same view with less midnight bar noise. Budget travelers should look at Kamari's black sand beach, where doubles start around €40.
