Getting around
Rent a car. Maui has no rail, no subway, and a bus system that runs limited hours on limited routes. Towns sit 20 to 45 minutes apart by car, and Haleakala National Park and the Road to Hana are unreachable without one. Uber and Lyft operate near Kahului and the resort corridors but thin out fast beyond them.

Best time to visit
April through May and September through October give you Maui's warmest, driest weather with hotel rates 30-40% below the December peak. Daytime temperatures hold near 27°C (80°F) on the leeward coast around Wailea and Ka'anapali. You'll miss the humpback whale season (peaks January through March), but you'll also miss fighting for a parking spot at every trailhead.
