Centro Storico puts you where Sorrento functions. Piazza Tasso sits at the junction of Corso Italia and Via San Cesareo. The Circumvesuviana station is a 5-minute walk north. The cliff elevator to Marina Piccola is 10 minutes south, and the first hydrofoil leaves before 8:30am. You want a seat before the tour-bus crowds from Naples pile onto the 10am departures. September in Sorrento still reaches 28°C with 89% humidity, so air conditioning matters when choosing a room. Sea-facing rooms along Via Correale carry a €30-40 premium over courtyard rooms at the same hotel, but the view north to Vesuvius earns it. Lemon groves line the cliff paths south of Corso Italia, and their scent drifts through open hotel windows at night. You'll hear Vespas until about 11pm, then the town goes quiet except for plates clattering at the restaurants on Via San Cesareo. The rooms to avoid face Piazza Tasso directly, where traffic and music from Bar Fauno carry until midnight.

Sant'Agnello sits one Circumvesuviana stop east of Sorrento, about a 20-minute walk from Piazza Tasso. Hotels here run €70-120 per night. The Grand Hotel Cocumella, with roots in the 1600s, charges €250-380 and earns it with terraced gardens that slope toward the sea. Sant'Agnello is quiet past 9pm. Fewer tour groups, empty sidewalks, and breakfast terraces where you can hear waves hitting the rocks 60 meters below. The downside is that the last Circumvesuviana back from Naples arrives around 10:30pm, and a taxi from Piazza Tasso costs €12-15 after dark. If you plan to eat dinner in Centro most evenings, that fare adds up. For families or anyone who prioritizes sleep, the double rooms at €80-100 tend to be large enough for an extra cot.

Book 6-8 weeks ahead for September and October. Sorrento's hotel stock is smaller than Naples or Rome, and the mid-range rooms with sea views sell first. Avoid anything listed as 'sea view' on the inland side of Corso Italia. Those rooms face the valley toward Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, not the water. Genuine sea-view rooms sit along Via Correale or Via Marina Grande on the cliff edge, and their listing photos show the bay filling the frame.
