Tuesday through Thursday the city feels most like itself: locals pack Torvehallerne at lunchtime for smørrebrød from Hallernes Smørrebrød and coffee from Coffee Collective, and the canal-side tables along Nyhavn fill with Danes, not just tourists. Thursday evening has a going-out energy — bars along Istedgade in Vesterbro start filling by 8pm, and Mikkeller on Viktoriagade pours experimental brews to a crowd that skews local.

Friday and Saturday nights are the big ones. Nørrebro's Ravnsborggade strip gets loud — you'll catch cigarette smoke and hear Danish pop leaking from open doors past midnight. Kødbyen, the old meatpacking district in Vesterbro, turns into the club quarter: Jolene and Bakken pull crowds until 5am, and the concrete floors still carry a chill even in June. Saturday morning belongs to Torvehallerne — get there by 9am if you want the fresh-pastry stalls before the queues build. The outdoor stands sell strawberries in early June that taste nothing like supermarket imports; they're smaller, warmer from the sun, and almost jammy. Sunday is brunch day. Café Wilder on Wildersgade in Christianshavn does solid eggs and pastries at sidewalk tables, though the wait can stretch past 30 minutes by 11am. After eating, walk five minutes to Christianshavns Torv and into Freetown Christiania — Sundays tend to be its calmest day.

Early June is Copenhagen at its most generous with daylight — the sun doesn't set until nearly 9:45pm, and there's usable twilight past 11pm. Temperatures this week sit around 17–22°C, warm enough for a harbor swim at Islands Brygge's open-air baths if you can handle it (the water is still around 16°C, though locals don't seem to mind). Wind off the Øresund can drop the felt temperature by a few degrees, so keep a light jacket in your bag even on clear afternoons. Rain this time of year tends to come in short bursts rather than all-day soaks — you'll see Danes cycling through it without flinching. That said, the steadiest weather days tend to fall midweek; weekends in June sometimes catch a North Sea front that rolls in Friday evening and clears by Saturday afternoon.

One thing that catches first-timers off guard: Copenhagen is expensive. A basic lunch runs 120–160 DKK (roughly $19–25 USD at current rates), and a craft beer at a Vesterbro bar is 70–85 DKK. The Copenhagen Card might make sense if you're hitting three or more paid attractions in a week — Rosenborg Castle alone costs 130 DKK, and Designmuseum Denmark is 135 DKK. For food on a budget, look for the daily lunch deal (dagens ret) at neighbourhood cafés in Nørrebro, where prices drop to 85–100 DKK for a full plate.
