Phoenix coffee is not a scene that wants to be Portland or a scene that wants to be Melbourne; it is a scene built for a city where the light is hard, the summers are merciless, and a cafe earns its keep by being open before the heat lands. The dozen rooms below are concentrated in the corridor that runs from the warehouses east of the tracks up through Roosevelt Row, Midtown, and the edge of Encanto: a walkable, bikeable belt of independents where the espresso programs are taken seriously, the breakfast plates are honest, and the doors open early enough to matter. A few are roasters with national distribution; a few are neighborhood counters with one barista and a regular at every stool. One is a corporate location included because it is the room that is open latest in the cluster, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
