Nashville's coffee scene reads, at first glance, like a country song about itself: too many shops chasing the same aesthetic, too few willing to talk about beans. The good news: the city has more serious cafes than the bachelorette traffic admits, and most of the best ones open early enough to dodge it. The 12 below run a coherent range: a Commerce Street specialist that opens at 07:30 and closes by 14:30; a Murphy Road outpost lit up by 06:00 for the commuter trade; a McGavock Pike room that treats breakfast, tea, and an espresso program as three separate kitchens; the Hermitage Avenue espresso room that the city's third-wave drinkers still measure their morning by.
