Louisville for foodies

Louisville's food identity runs on bourbon, pork, and a handful of dishes born here and nowhere else. The Hot Brown, an open-faced turkey sandwich from The Brown Hotel (1926), and Benedictine, a cucumber-cream cheese spread from around 1900, are local inventions. NuLu and Bardstown Road hold the best restaurants. The city eats Southern but with Midwestern-sized portions.
