Must-see
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center holds one of three remaining Saturn V rockets, all 363 feet displayed in a hangar that smells of old metal and hydraulic fluid. Admission is currently around $28 for adults. Go on a weekday morning before school groups arrive around 10am. Big Spring Park and Monte Sano State Park round out a strong top three.

Meat-and-three lunches still cost $10-14 on the south side of town.

Where locals go
Huntsville locals cluster at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment on weekday evenings, Campus No. 805's brewery courtyard after 5pm, and the Five Points district's coffee-and-taco stretch along Pratt Avenue. The aerospace-engineer crowd skews the demographic younger and nerdier than most Alabama cities, which means trivia nights and taprooms over country bars.

Where to stay
Stay downtown near Big Spring Park for a first visit. You're within a 10-minute walk of Clinton Avenue restaurants, the Huntsville Museum of Art, and the courthouse square. Budget $110-160 for a mid-range hotel. The Research Park corridor near the U.S. Space & Rocket Center works if you're visiting on aerospace business, but it's dull after 6pm.
